The National Safe Boating Council (NSBC), as part of its mission to promote safer boating through education, outreach and training, has developed an instructor's course in Close Quarters Boat Control. As the National Safe Boating Council and Canadian Safe Boating Council embarked on its first “Ready, Set, Inflate!” North American event in 2010, no one honestly knew what to expect. Would people grab on to an event promoting inflatable life jackets? Would the media pick up a story about safety with a fun twist? Would a legitimate “world record” actually be set? [more]

While of little interest to our friends in the Southern States - I thought some folks in colder climes would enjoy seeing this photo. This company spends all winter lifting vehicles from the bottom of a large (132,000 acres) lake in central Minnesota. While the driver escaped this vehicle, sometimes people aren't so lucky. So far 4 people have died in through the ice incidents this winter in Minnesota. All four were using ATVs at the time.

Every day, I comb through search results Google sends me with any hits on “life jacket.” Typically, I’m looking for “Saved by the Jacket” stories to post on the “Wear It!” campaign’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Occasionally, I get great stories about celebrities wearing their life jackets, a silly or intriguing boating tale, or a special boating safety education and outreach program happening somewhere in the U.S. [more]
