Lexington, KENTUCKY (01/12/2017) – The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) has named Hannah Helsby as Communications Director for the association.

Hannah joined NASBLA in 2012 when she was hired as a Project Associate. Her first major project was to assist in the continued growth and development of NASBLA’s highly successful national campaign, Operation Dry Water (ODW). Operation Dry Water is a year-round nationwide boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign, coordinated nationally by NASBLA.

With a background in media and communications, and family ties to law enforcement, Hannah’s work with Operation Dry Water aligned perfectly with her personal and professional interests. In addition to managing the ODW campaign, Hannah works to ensure that NASBLA events and programming – including the NASBLA Annual Conference – continue to address and adapt to the growing and changing needs of our membership.

“As Communications Director, Hannah will continue to put our members needs first by expanding the reach of our communications program from headquarters directly to our members and constituents in the boating safety and maritime security communities,” noted NASBLA CEO, John M. Johnson. “She will also work to increase communications outside our core membership in ways that will assists in educating the boating public about safe boating, helping the media and the public engage with their state boating authorities, and keeping the recreational boating safety community and the boating public informed about the progress and accomplishments of NASBLA and our members.”

With an increase in the number of new Boating Law Administrators (BLAs) NASBLA has seen over the past few years, Hannah will also be developing a thorough communications plan to ensure BLAs are aware of and have access to the tools, information and education they need to engage in NASBLA and address their priorities and missions within their own agencies. Hannah will also continue her role in managing the Operation Dry Water campaign as NASBLA continues to take actions to expand the reach and participation in this campaign.

NASBLA is a national nonprofit organization representing all 50 states and the U.S. territories. In addition to developing public policy for recreational boating safety and maritime security for over 50 years, NASBLA has been committed to maintaining the national training and education standards for the recreational boating community and the maritime public safety professionals that patrol and protect our nation’s waterways every day. NASBLA’s mission includes fostering partnerships among the states, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other recreation boating safety partners. For more information visit nasbla.org.
