Illinois names new Boating Law Administrator

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) welcomes Lieutenant Lt. Curt Lewis - Illinois BLACurt Lewis, the new Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for the state of Illinois. Lt. Lewis began his career with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Conservation Police in early 2000. He started off by serving as a field officer in the Northwestern part of Illinois. In 2004, he was promoted to Sergeant over the Northwestern District.

In 2010, Lt. Lewis transferred to the Springfield area to work as the District Sergeant for the central Illinois District. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2012 and was placed in charge of the training section. During this time, Lt. Lewis was heavily involved in the recreational boating side of enforcement for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He has attended many of the courses offered through the NASBLA BOAT Program, including the Basic Boating Accident Investigation (BAI) course and the Advanced BAI course.

Lt. Lewis was a part of the Department’s Recreational Boat Safety Committee and assisted with developing several pieces of legislation and boat safety course requirements for the state. The safety of recreational boating and the educational efforts to promote safe boating have always been top priorities for Lt. Lewis. Transitioning into the new role of the BLA is something he is greatly looking forward to!
