LEXINGTON, KY.
(October 6, 2020) – During the 2020
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Annual Conference, held virtually Sept. 28 – 30, Boating Law Administrators elected Captain Timothy Dunleavy, Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for New Hampshire, as Chairman of the nonprofit organization for the 2020-2021 year. He succeeds Assistant Commander Cody Jones, BLA for the state of Texas. NASBLA is a national nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that works to develop public policy for recreational boating safety. NASBLA represents the recreational boating authorities of all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

As a 32-year veteran of the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol Unit, Captain Timothy Dunleavy has been the unit’s Commander and New Hampshire’s BLA for the last 10 years. Overseeing 75 sworn and civilian employees, Dunleavy’s oversight includes law enforcement operations, the boating education program, patrol fleet maintenance, and aids to navigation deployment and repair. Capt. Dunleavy also serves as the unit’s legislative liaison where he has served on various legislative commissions. Most recently, he was a member of the state’s Commission to Study Wake Boats and the Study of Shoreland Structures.

“After a successful virtual NASBLA Annual Conference and Business Meeting, we are excited to see the membership elect Capt. Dunleavy as NASBLA Chair,” said John Johnson, NASBLA Chief Executive Officer. “Capt. Dunleavy is a true recreational boating safety professional and we are grateful that he has chosen to extend that work and impact by serving as a NASBLA Executive Board member, and now as NASBLA Chair. After a year full of great accomplishments under the leadership of Asst. Commander Cody Jones, we cannot wait to see what 2021 holds for NASBLA and our membership. I want to thank Asst. Commander Cody Jones for his service as Chair and his continued service as Past Chair as well as welcome Capt. Dunleavy to this new role. We look forward to working with him as NASBLA Chair.”

Capt. Dunleavy is currently a member of the New Hampshire Port Security Committee and Sector Northern New England’s Area Maritime Security-Executive Steering Committee. He also is currently serving his third term as a member of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC).
