Iowa Boating Law Administrator Elected NASBLA Chair

LEXINGTON, KY. (October 5, 2022) – During its 63rd Annual Conference, held in Manchester, New Hampshire, Sept. 27 – 30, 2022, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) elected Susan Stocker, Boating Law Administrator for Iowa, as chair of the organization for the 2022-2023 year. She succeeds Lieutenant Kenton Turner, Indiana's Boating Law Administrator. NASBLA is a national nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that works to develop public policy for recreational boating safety. NASBLA represents the recreational boating authorities of all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

Stocker graduated in 1992 from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Applied Science. In 1992, she began her career as a conservation officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Bureau. Stocker also graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy out of Des Moines, Iowa, and later graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in 2004. 
 
Stocker has served as Iowa's BLA since 2009. She is the state's representative to NASBLA and is responsible for being the voice of the state on boating safety matters. In 2011, Stocker graduated from the NASBLA Leadership Academy and was elected to the NASBLA Executive Board in 2018, currently serving her fifth year as a member of the board. As a member of the NASBLA Executive Board, she is responsible for moving recreational boating safety forward through education, enforcement, training and policy development on a national level – to the benefit of all states and territories.
