The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is proud to announce the 2023 BOAT Program Instructor of the Year, Charlie Mallow, recognized for his exceptional performance and dedication within the Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program. The Instructor of the Year Award was presented to Charlie Mallow on May 8 in Clearwater Beach, Florida, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education and experience to students participating in the BOAT Program.
Mallow, a lead instructor, has consistently demonstrated dedication, loyalty, and passion throughout his years of instruction. He has faced and overcome significant adversity while establishing the BOAT curriculum for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Despite these challenges, Mallow has continued to persevere, delivering exceptional course content to both sworn recruits and non-sworn personnel. His passion is evident in every course delivery, as he provides personal support with time, equipment, and expertise.
“Charlie Mallow is always the first instructor on site and the last one to depart, making sure every student is satisfied with the day’s events and all equipment and personnel are safe and secure," said John Fetterman, NASBLA Deputy Executive Director. “Charlie is an example to all instructors of what it means to be a silent professional. He is humble and never seeks individual recognition for his actions.”
Mallow's instructional abilities have set a high standard for others to follow. He has been a key leader and educator within NASBLA’s BOAT Program instructor cadre, showing a strong commitment to duty and professionalism. His contributions have been instrumental in supporting the strategic goals of the BOAT Program and enhancing the safety and security of America’s waterways.
