Andy Foos Attains Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) Certification

Andy Foos - Ohio
On September 5, 2024, Andy Foos of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks & Watercraft, passed the Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) exam and was awarded his CRBP certification. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is pleased to recognize Andy Foos as one of the individuals who have recently attained the CRBP credential.

The CRBP certification, developed by NASBLA, is a voluntary credential for recreational boating professionals. It encompasses knowledge, performance, and career achievements in specific program domains.

Andy Foos began his career with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in 1998 as a seasonal employee at Delaware State Park. After completing the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Marion Technical College in 2002, he became a State Watercraft Officer for the ODNR Division of Watercraft in 2003. As a State Watercraft Officer, his primary focus was marine law enforcement and boating safety.

Later in his career, Foos transitioned to the role of Education Specialist Officer for his district, where he concentrated on boating safety and education, coordinating programs and attending special events to promote safe boating practices. He also became a lead instructor in several disciplines, including Marine Patrol, National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) Close Quarters and Open Water Instructor Trainer, and Canoe and Kayak Instructor.

Foos played a key role in implementing modern side-scan sonar technology within the agency, enabling quicker response times and recovery efforts with fewer personnel. He introduced the first Humminbird sonar units, which could be mounted on vessels, replacing the need for multiple officers to operate towable sonar equipment.

After a few years, Foos transitioned to the position of Law Enforcement Specialist, where he coordinated special operations, served as a court liaison, and focused on enhancing marine patrol efforts. In 2016, following the merger of the Division of Watercraft and the Division of Parks, he became the Sergeant for the Central District. In this role, he also served on the department's training team as a firearms instructor and armorer for all issued duty weapons.

In December 2023, Foos assumed the role of State Boating Education Coordinator at the ODNR central headquarters, overseeing the state's boating education program. He attended the NASBLA Leadership Academy in June 2024.

Please join NASBLA in congratulating Andy Foos for achieving the title of Certified Recreational Boating Professional!
