    Commercial Fishing Resources for COVID-19

Researchers at the Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (NEC) have compiled COVID-19 resources for commercial fishermen on a designated web page: www.necenter.org/covid-19

Resources for commercial fishermen as well as commercial farmers and loggers are organized by industry as well as by state, for easy access. In addition to industry sources, there is general health and prevention information, including where the uninsured can go to apply for health insurance and who to call if you think you might be sick.

"There are so many excellent resources for fishermen, we felt it would help to gather many of these together into one place," said Rebecca Weil, coordinator of NEC's Lifejackets for Lobstermen project.

The NEC is funded through the Centers for Disease Control to address prominent occupational safety and health hazards in agricultural, forestry and fishing communities throughout the Northeast. In addition to conducting research and developing safety programs, the Center offers safety training, health screening and counseling services to agricultural, forestry and fisheries workers.

NEC director Julie Sorensen notes "so many people in commercial fishing also work in agriculture or forestry or have family members who do, so we are happy to be able to offer this page as a resource." Visit our COVID-19 page at www.necenter.org/covid-19 If you have a resource link to share, email Rebecca.weil@bassett.org.
