Looking for a company that has portable ticket writers for patrol boats.  Does anyone have any contacts.

    Thanks

We have an e-ticket system in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Section but I wouldn't really call it "portable" or "handheld" since it relies on 3 separate pieces of equipment - laptop, DL scanner, printer (4 if you count the cell phone for internet access).  We've had limited success in using the system on our patrol boats - the main issue being connectivity to the internet.  However, I saw a YouTube video where Austin, TX PD was using a handheld device made by Zebra (www.zebra.com) that looked more like what you may be looking for - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=migaHZp88Qw .  I'm not sure what peripherals are needed to make their system work.  You might give Austin PD a call or check with Texas BLA Cody Jones at Texas Parks and Wildlife 512.389.4624. He may have a point of contact in Austin or within his agency that can advise you

We have been using e tickets for several years. There are definitely some growing pains when and if you switch to this format (connectivity, computer mounts, antennas, a minimum number of citations and warnings before an officer can be entered into the system). I will be happy to speak to you or better yet get you in contact with the Sgt who oversees this process. I was really impressed by what Minnesota is using.

We started running a program through SceneDoc (maybe Tyler Technologies now).  IT has worked great and does not require internet at the time of issuing a ticket.  It is set up to print from an Android or iPhone via blue tooth and is printing thermal paper so the tickets can get wet and not smudge.  As long as the phone has access to the internet every now and then to secure a new batch of ticket numbers before you run out and can upload the tickets to the cloud you are good.  There is a built in ID scanner which saves a bit of time and helps reduce eyes off subject time.

To be fair, we are in testing still (5 months) and we are using it on land in trucks, but we often do not have cell service and it works well.

The interface is user friendly and they have a good tech support option when you do run into issues.

I am happy to share more information if you are interested or you can email our contact there.

    Hope this helped, stay safe

The first question might be what does your county/state court system accept for software?  This is the software used by our state and several others:

Then you need to find a toughbook or tablet solution that works for you.  Here is the tablet provider we use for tablets and mobile docking stations:

    Sgt. Jefferson,

I am happy to chat if you want to about this. Our department doesn't currently use etickets systems since we deal with courts all across the state so the first question is what is the court in your area accepting and then the system will dictate the equipment most often. Please feel free to reach out at any time.
