How do you register an e-foil or motorized surfboard?

This has been a hot topic for a few years now.  On August 26th, 2022 the USCG issued a policy letter addressing the requirements for numbering and titling of these types of vessels.  

In short, 

• A HIN must be present and validated on the vessel.
• These vessels should be issued a certificate of number (CON) and can be marked as either “Personal Watercraft” or “Other” with the appropriate propulsion and engine drive type.
• These vessels should be numbered according to 33 CFR 173.27 (the same regulation that governs the numbering of all other vessels) with slight modification.
