Bio

I began my career with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department on October 1, 1992 as a cadet in the 43rd Game Warden Training Academy in Austin Texas. After completing the academy, I got stationed in Cameron County where I spent the next 16 years of my career. Cameron County offered a wide variety of Game Warden work to include hunting, fishing, water safety, commercial fishing and border related issues. In 2009 I transferred to Hidalgo County where I spent the next 7 years working the South Texas Brush Country.

With the formation our agencies Special Operations Group, I was then assigned as one of the full-time team members on the agencies Marine Tactical Operations Group (MTOG). As the senior operator on the team, I played a role in his team’s training and operational planning. My areas of expertise included: Maritime Law Enforcement, Maritime Tactical Operations, Port/Border Security, Drug Interdiction, Firearms and Operational Planning.

I officially retired from TPWD as of October 2018, but still carry a Special Game Warden Commission.

Currently I am a NASBLA Lead Instructor in the BOAT Program where I instruct all the Response and Tactical Courses. I’m also the National Program Manager for the Airboat Operators Course and the Waterborne Armed Threat Emergency Response Course, which is a new course set to roll out in 2019. I truly believe that the best way to prepare for the unexpected is to train and train hard. I take a personal approach to the courses I teach, spending many hours in training development and research.

I was honored with a Director’s Citation for a GIS project that I initiated to better serve my partners. The project involved the creation of a detailed map book of the Rio Grande River that included locations and routes often used by smugglers. This map became standard issue for not only Texas Game Wardens, but also for the Texas Rangers, US Border Patrol and several other agencies.

I hold certificates as a Master Peace Officer, A Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Instructor Certificate and a Firearms Instructor Certificate.

In my off time my wife and I enjoy traveling and babysitting our first grandbaby. We have 4 kids ranging in age from 18-24, 3 girls and a boy. I also manage a 5,000-acre ranch where we employ best practices for White-Tailed Deer and other species. I love to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors with family on hikes.
