10-01-12 GLOUCESTER, MA Body of missing kayaker recovered off Marblehead coast wickedlocal.com (10-03-12) The body of missing kayaker Maryan Lisovich, formerly of Marblehead, was found this past Mon. (10-01) about 7 nautical mi. from Gloucester. The crew of a fishing boat spotted the body around 3:30 p.m. Mon., and a USCG vessel brought the body to its Gloucester station before transporting it to the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston for identification. Lisovich, 23, of Lynn went missing while kayaking off the coast of Swampscott on Sept. 8. His girlfriend had reported him missing at 7 p.m., and by sunset the next day, the CG had called off the search. Lisovich was reportedly not wearing a lifejacket, and several storms had created rough waters and strong currents, all of which played a part in the CG’s decision to suspend the search. Lisovich’s kayak was discovered a few days after he went missing. His ties to Marblehead were strong after emigrating from Ukraine while he was in elementary school. The following agencies assisted in both the initial search for the Lisovich as well as the recovery of his body: USCG, State Police Marine Unit, State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Essex District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Scene Services, Swampscott PD, Salem and Quincy Police Dive Teams, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and the Swampscott and Marblehead harbormasters. 10-05-12 ISLAND PARK, ID Four boaters rescued in challenging conditions rexburgstandardjournal.com (10-08-12) Four people from Idaho Falls were rescued Fri. evening (10-05) after their boat became stranded on Henry's Lake due to high winds whipping up the waves. Two men, a woman and an 8-y/o boy were on an aluminum jet boat that was unable to make it back to the dock. All the searchers and the people they set out to rescue are safe, but the private boat and one search and rescue boat were damaged during what rescuers termed a “long, cold ordeal,” that lasted into the early hours of Sat. morning (10-06). After a report about the boaters in trouble came in about 6:40 p.m. Fremont County Search and Rescue responded along with a Fremont Co. deputy. Rescuers determined that the stranded boat had been launched at a dock on the SW corner of the lake and got pushed up against cliffs on the S. edge of the lake. The 4 people abandoned their boat and climbed from the lake where a sheriff's deputy got them into his warm vehicle. The deputy guided the search team in their boat to the stranded boat, but then the search boat began taking on water and the crew had to tie it off at the shore. The winds were causing choppy waves and spray and as the evening progressed the temperatures, which were barely above freezing when search and rescue put in on the lake, continued to drop. Brett Mackert, the commander of Fremont Co. Search and Rescue, and Fremont Co. Sheriff Len Humphries then came up from St. Anthony with a larger rescue boat. While the larger boat was towing the original stranded boat, the smaller boat capsized. Searchers got it loaded on its trailer and the rescued party was able to drive home. Working well into Sat. morning, search and rescue members recovered their smaller boat, which also capsized while under tow and sustained engine damage that is still being assessed.
