04-28-13 DAGGETT COUNTY, UT Boat found, search narrows for missing Wyoming man Search and rescue workers looking for a missing Wyoming boater have narrowed the focus of their efforts after locating his submerged boat. The boat, which initially had been spotted by other boaters this past weekend at Flaming Gorge Reservoir, was found by Utah search crews Tue. afternoon (04-30). Daggett Co. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Susie Potter said Wed. (05-01) that the water craft was submerged in 100 ft. of water in the Jug Hollow area. The discovery restored hopes of divers and searchers in boats equipped with sonar for recovering the remains of Danny Durante, 46, of Jackson, Wyo. He is presumed to have drowned sometime last Sun. (04-28), when the boat apparently capsized. "With the location of the boat the searchers will be able to focus the search area according to the current patterns," Potter said, adding that "high winds this week have complicated the search efforts." In addition to Daggett Co. search and rescue workers, state parks and recreation personnel were joined Wed. by searchers from Sweetwater Co., Wyo.Read full story here.

05-01-13 MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX Tomball man fishing on Lake Conroe apparently drowns Officials with the Montgomery Co. Precinct 1 Constable’s Office are investigating the possible drowning of a 59-y/o Tomball man on the S. end of Lake Conroe Wed. evening (05-01). According to Lt. Dan Cain, with the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, George Blackwell Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Several 911 calls came in reporting a man in the water and a boat circling near him. A witness reported she saw the man go under the water and then come back up and was able to give rescue workers the location where the man was. “There was an (emergency room) physician riding a Jet Ski that grabbed Blackwell and drug him to shore,” Cain said. The physician started CPR but was unable to revive Blackwell. Cain said while the boat was equipped with life vests, Blackwell was not wearing one. Blackwell, who was alone, was seen fishing along the shore line, but none of the witnesses were able say whether he fell into the water or entered the water for another reason. It is not yet clear whether there were any other medical problems that might have been a factor. Cain said an autopsy was ordered. Read full story here.

04-27-13 JACKSONVILLE, FL Orange Park man saves himself, 3 others after vessels overturn An Orange Park man saved himself and 3 others after their vessels turned over in the ocean off Huguenot Mem. Park around 3 p.m. Sat. (04-27). Wyatt Bell and his brother were riding the surf on jet skis when his brother capsized. Bell tried to help him and he too fell off. He said the current was so strong, the jet skis quickly got away from them. After getting caught in rip currents and treading water for about 15 min., Bell said a man, who was towing another overturned jet ski nearby, saw them and went over to help him and his brother. "While he was getting assisted, I saw a random oar floating in the water," said Bell. "Just past the oar, I saw 2 kayaks that were turned upside down." Disoriented, sick and exhausted, Bell raced over to help a little boy and his uncle. "Just past the kayaks, I see 2 bodies floating in the water and I made 3 or 4 attempts to get them on the back of my ski, but the waves were so close together that it really became a problem," said Bell. "Obviously you can't run them over and the waves are coming over, trying to capsize me again." They drifted about one mi. offshore. Bell had swallowed so much salt water trying to rescue them, he said he kept throwing up. But he didn’t give up. Bell couldn't pull them in so he rushed to shore and called for help. Emergency workers raced out to the surf and were able to bring them in to safety. The boy was transported to Baptist but he and the others are expected to be fine. Bell said he's so grateful they were all wearing lifejackets and didn't go out in the ocean alone.Read full story here.
