The Arizona Game and Fish Department is being recognized for meeting the American National Standard for On-Water Recreational Boating Skills Standard – HUMAN-PROPELLED. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is responsible for registering Arizona watercraft, enforcing boating safety laws and educating the public on safe boating practices. Game and Fish also enforces the state’s Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) laws.

The organization's on-water paddlesports course, “Paddlesports Arizona,” has been verified to meet the American National Standard for on-water skills entitled EDU-2 Skill-Based Human-Propelled Standard and has received the Verified Course Human-Propelled Mark. This is the first human-propelled course to receive this voluntary third-party verification based on the American National Standard for recreational boating skills.

Recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as American National Standards, the On-Water PowerOn-Water Sailing, and On-Water Human-Propelled standards identify fundamental skills that entry-level recreational boat operators should be able to demonstrate after receiving instruction.

Under funding provided by a USCG grant, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators has implemented a process of voluntary third-party conformity assessment for on-water boating skill programs to verify a course meets American National Standards for Power, Sail, and Human-Propelled. Successful completion includes the award of a uniquely-numbered “Verified Course” mark indicating “The content of this course conforms to the American National Standard for on-water skills as verified through an independent third-party assessment process.”

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators is recognized by the United States Coast Guard as an official national entity to serve as a third-party independent reviewer to verify boating courses against the American National Standards for On-Water Recreational Boating Skills.
