The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) recognized Maine Marine Patrol Officer Thomas Reardon as the 2021 Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program Instructor of the Year. The 2021 Instructor of the Year Award was presented to Reardon on December 8 at the BOAT Program National Instructor Development Workshop held in Lexington, Kentucky.

Beginning as a break-in instructor in 2019, he quickly earned the NASBLA instructor credential, teaching eight courses in the last 24 months. Reardon’s knowledge of his professional specialty and willingness to assist in any capacity has made him a valuable asset to the NABSLA BOAT Program’s instructor cadre.

“Tom Reardon brought a fresh and positive attitude to the BOAT Program when he came aboard as a new instructor,” said Dave Considine, BOAT Program Director. “He is genuinely excited to be in the classroom, and the students can relate to him in a very personal way. Tom is a role model for the rest of the team!”

Thomas Reardon has routinely received course assignments generally assigned to more senior personnel. However, he consistently uses tact and leadership which promotes a genuine feeling of self-achievement and a desire to excel among the instructors who work with him.
