Captain Tim Dunleavy commended for his achievements as NASBLA Chair

Verne Gifford & Captain Tim Dunleavy

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) hosted its State Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) Workshop, March 2 – 3, in Lexington, Kentucky. During the Executive Board meeting, which took place prior to the event on March 1, Verne Gifford, Chief, Boating Safety Division (CG-BSX-2), presented NASBLA past Chair and New Hampshire Boating Law Administrator (BLA), Captain Tim Dunleavy, with the U.S. Coast Guard Boating Safety Program’s Award of Excellence.

The Award of Excellence is the highest level of the two awards that the U.S. Coast Guard Boating Safety Program presents. This award recognizes achievements that were made in multiple initiatives of the National Recreational Boating Safety Program’s Strategic Plan.

Captain Dunleavy was recognized for his performance as the NASBLA Chair and as the Chair of the Strategic Planning Subcommittee of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC). In each of these roles, Captain Dunleavy ensured the successful renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard.

In addition to assisting with the development of the milestones of the Strategic Plan, Captain Dunleavy also tracked the progress of each of these initiatives. This was critical in aligning the goals of NASBLA, the States, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

During the award presentation, Gifford also emphasized the manner in which Captain Dunleavy has served. Captain Dunleavy has strived to maintain excellent and positive relationships with each person he works with, and has helped to continue to strengthen the important relationship between NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The U.S. Coast Guard is now presenting a dovetail burgee for its Award of Excellence, and each burgee presented has a unique serial number. Typically, the Coast Guard only presents one or two of these awards annually.

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators congratulates Captain Tim Dunleavy on this achievement and thanks him for his service to NASBLA!
