The Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) certification is a voluntary credential for recreational boating professionals developed by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). The credential is broad-based and addresses boating professionals’ knowledge, performance, and career achievements in the identified program domains.

On November 4, 2021, Lieutenant Curtis Lewis, Illinois Boating Law Administrator, passed the exam and was awarded his CRBP certification. NASBLA is pleased to recognize Lt. Curtis Lewis as the second person to complete the exam for the CRBP credential.

Lt. Lewis is a dedicated and accomplished Illinois Conservation Police Lieutenant with over 23 years of extensive proactive and collaborative law enforcement experience. As the Illinois Conservation Police Training Lieutenant, Lewis implemented changes to increase professionalism in the training and certification of new officers within the Department. He assisted with the development of policies and procedures allowing the Department to embrace needed changes in the interactions between Illinois officers and the boating public.

Lt. Lewis established and implemented professional training standards for Department officers which exceeded Illinois state standards. In 2020, Lt. Lewis was named the Illinois Boating Law Administrator and began his role in directing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating major functions of the Recreational Boating Program.

In 2021, Lt. Lewis attended the NASBLA RBS Leadership Academy in Lexington, Kentucky, and used this knowledge to actively pursue obtaining the CRBP credential. Later that year, Lt. Lewis was appointed to the NASBLA Executive Board and acts as the Executive Board liaison to the Vessel Identification, Registration and Titling (VIRT) Committee.

Boating has always been a part of Lt. Lewis’s career in law enforcement, but he has also been an avid boater and watersport enthusiast since he was a teenager. Working to educate the recreational boating public has always been a part of his life, both on the job and in his leisure time.

Please join NASBLA in congratulating Lt. Curtis Lewis for achieving the title of Certified Recreational Boating Professional!
