2024 NASBLA Awards Ceremony Honors Industry Leaders

Award Winners Recognized at the 65th Annual NASBLA Conference 
 
The 65th Annual NASBLA Conference took place in New Orleans, Louisiana, from Sept. 17-19, 2024. During the awards ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 19, NASBLA presented its annual national awards, honoring members and colleagues in the recreational boating safety community for their exceptional contributions to boating and water safety. This year, NASBLA recognized 16 award winners at the event. 
 
Lifetime Achievement Award 

  • Paul Barnard, 8th U.S. Coast Guard. District 

  • Betsy Woods, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency 

  • Captain Stephanie Weatherington, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission 

 
Boating Safety Award 

  • Officer Specialist Gilbrando Resendez, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Division of Law Enforcement 

  • Sergeant Nate Thompson, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office

     

Regional Pamela S. Dillon Boating Educators of the Year 

  • Northern Region: Chris A. Calhoun, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission 

  • Southern Region: Game Warden Marcus Bowling, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources 

  • Western Region: Wildlife Officer Scott Murdoch, Colorado Parks and Wildlife 

 
National Pamela S. Dillon Boating Educator of the Year 

  • Game Warden Marcus Bowling, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources 

 

Regional Boating Officers of the Year 

  • Northern Region: Conservation Officer James Fogarty, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources  

  • Southern Region: Officer Montana Michelson, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency  

  • Western Region: Deputy Adam Peterson, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office

Operation Dry Water Awards 

The Operation Dry Water (ODW) Awards Program recognizes law enforcement officers and agencies that are making a positive impact on boating under the influence (BUI). During the ceremony, the ODW Officer of the Year, Top Agencies and Media Award winners were honored for their hard work and dedication to boating under the influence prevention and the Operation Dry Water campaign. Click here to read more about the 2024 ODW award winners.
