The CRBP certification, developed by NASBLA, is a voluntary credential designed for recreational boating professionals. It reflects knowledge, performance, and career accomplishments across specific program domains.
Captain Russo began his career with LDWF in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, where he enforced boating safety laws, conducted search-and-rescue operations, and upheld conservation laws with unwavering dedication.
For more than 20 years, Captain Russo has served as a boating safety education instructor, finding fulfillment in educating the public. He completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Marine Patrol Officer's Course in 2003 and the FLETC Marine Law Enforcement Training Program in 2006, earning recognition as class president and honor graduate. Building on his extensive maritime law enforcement training, Captain Russo now serves as a national instructor for NASBLA’s Level 1 and Level 2 Boating Incident Investigation and Analysis Courses. Additionally, he is his agency’s NASBLA Officer Water Survival Instructor.
In 2023, Captain Russo received NASBLA’s Butch Potts National Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. After a distinguished career in the field as an enforcement agent and supervisor, he was promoted to Headquarters in 2024. He now serves as the Emergency Services Manager and the Accredited Agency Program Manager for the NASBLA BOAT Program on behalf of LDWF. Notably, Captain Russo is the first member of his department to complete the CRBP program.
Captain Russo is a proud father of five children, whose ages range from 21 to 4. He resides in Metairie, Louisiana, with his wife, Kelly. In his free time, he enjoys spending time on the water with his family and duck hunting.
Please join NASBLA in congratulating Captain Jason Russo on achieving the Certified Recreational Boating Professional credential!
