Captain George Birdwell Achieves Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) Certification
On December 3, 2024, Captain George Birdwell of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) successfully passed the
Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) exam and earned his CRBP certification. The
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is proud to recognize Captain Birdwell as one of the latest professionals to attain this prestigious credential.
The CRBP certification, developed by NASBLA, is a voluntary credential designed for recreational boating professionals. It reflects knowledge, performance, and career accomplishments across specific program domains.
Captain George Birdwell, a lifelong resident of Tennessee, holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He began his career with the TWRA in 1998 as a wildlife technician.
In 2000, Captain Birdwell was promoted to wildlife manager and, two years later, transitioned to a wildlife officer role in Unicoi County, Tennessee. In 2004, he accepted a full-time boating officer position, where he investigated numerous boating incidents within his district.
In 2012, Captain Birdwell was promoted to statewide boating investigator. In this role, he assists with boat incident investigations, vessel theft investigations, and provides training on boat incident investigations and boating under the influence (BUI) enforcement across the state.
