The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) proudly recognizes Captain Roy Smith of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) for successfully earning the Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) credential. Captain Smith passed the CRBP exam on December 20, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to advancing boating safety.

The CRBP certification, developed by NASBLA, is a voluntary credential designed to recognize recreational boating professionals for their knowledge, performance, and career achievements across key program domains.

Captain Smith, a veteran boating incident investigator with TWRA, has more than 20 years of experience investigating boating incidents. He has completed NASBLA’s Comprehensive and Advanced Incident Investigation courses, as well as the Boating Incident Reconstruction Course offered by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

As a boating incident investigator, Captain Smith responds to and investigates boating incidents and vessel thefts. He also provides training to officers statewide on all aspects of boating enforcement and incident investigation.

A strong advocate for integrating education and enforcement to improve boating safety compliance, Captain Smith has witnessed firsthand the consequences of hazardous behavior on the water. He believes that combining education with effective law enforcement is the most powerful tool for preventing incidents and saving lives.

NASBLA congratulates Captain Roy Smith on achieving the Certified Recreational Boating Professional credential.
