Maryland Names New Boating Law Administrator
The
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) would like to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Michael Sewell, the new Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for the state of Maryland.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Sewell began his career with the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) in 1987, serving in or supervising every unit within the department. He retired in June 2016 as a major after 30 years of service. After an eight-year absence from law enforcement, Sewell returned to the NRP on September 4, 2024, as deputy superintendent.
During his first tenure with the NRP, Sewell earned a master’s degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Johns Hopkins University in 2006. In 2008, he graduated from the FBI National Academy for police executives.
Throughout his career, Sewell has been recognized for his straightforward approach and commitment to recruiting minorities to join the NRP or the Department of Natural Resources in any capacity.
He currently lives in Anne Arundel County with his wife, and when he is not working or spending time with family, he plays golf.
