NASBLA Executive Board Visits U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Executive Board met with senior U.S. Coast Guard officials at their headquarters on Wednesday, February 5, for two key discussions aimed at strengthening the partnership between the organizations. The board first met with Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath, Assistant Commandant for Capability (CG-7), followed by a meeting with Rear Admiral Wayne R. Arguin Jr., Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy (CG-5P).
During the meeting with Rear Admiral Gilreath, the board focused on updates regarding the Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program, including the recent BOAT Program Advisory Panel (BPAP) meeting, which received strong support from the U.S. Coast Guard. The board also discussed expanding partnerships with the International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI) and reestablishing connections with U.S. Coast Guard Shore Forces.

In the meeting with Rear Admiral Arguin, the board addressed key policy and legislative initiatives critical to boating safety. They reviewed NASBLA’s support for the U.S. Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary & Boating Safety (CG-BSX) and discussed ongoing reauthorization efforts with the Angling and Boating Alliance. Other topics included derelict vessel removal fees and related charges under Section 12307, along with the upcoming re-signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in March 2025.
These two meetings underscored the continued collaboration between NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard in enhancing boating safety and addressing policy issues that affect the recreational boating community. Both organizations remain dedicated to working together to ensure safer waters across the nation.
The NASBLA Executive Board looks forward to further strengthening its relationship with the U.S. Coast Guard as both organizations continue their efforts to improve boating safety and law enforcement nationwide.
