Anthony I. Macaranas Appointed as Boating Law Administrator for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
The
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is excited to announce the appointment of Anthony I. Macaranas as the new Boating Law Administrator (BLA) for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
Anthony I. Macaranas has dedicated his life to public service, notably through a distinguished 35-year career in law enforcement within the CNMI. Beginning his journey at the age of 19 in 1986 with the CNMI Department of Public Safety, Macaranas exemplified unwavering commitment and integrity throughout his tenure.
His career path was defined by a series of pivotal roles where he showcased exceptional leadership and operational expertise. He served prominently in the Patrol Section, Highway Patrol Section, and the Tactical Response Enforcement Team, consistently upholding law and order and ensuring community safety.
In addition to his contributions to public safety within the CNMI, Macaranas enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in October 1999 demonstrating his commitment to serving both locally and nationally. He was deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom 3 from August 2004 to January 2006, where he contributed his skills and dedication to the mission. Macaranas was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in October 2007, having served his country with valor and dedication.
Returning from military service, Macaranas continued his impactful career in law enforcement, ultimately retiring as Assistant Chief of Police on January 31, 2022. His retirement, however, did not mark the end of his service to the community. A testament to his continued dedication and trustworthiness in public safety, on January 30, 2024 he was appointed the role of Commissioner of Public Safety. His appointment was confirmed by the Senate on May 13, 2024, and he was sworn into office the same day, assuming responsibility for overseeing the CNMI Department of Public Safety.

His legacy in law enforcement within the CNMI is characterized by an unwavering dedication to duty and lasting impact on the community, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and community members alike.
