Alabama Names New Boating Law Administrator

Captain Drew Brooks
The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) welcomes Captain Drew Brooks as the new boating law administrator (BLA) for the state of Alabama.

Captain Brooks is a seasoned law enforcement professional with a distinguished career in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). He began his law enforcement career in 2002 as a patrol officer with the Montgomery Police Department, rising to the rank of corporal and demonstrating a strong commitment to public safety and professional excellence.

He later served as a sheriff’s deputy with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Alabama Department of Public Safety in 2007 as a state trooper. Throughout his tenure, he has held numerous leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including protective services detail leader for Alabama’s lieutenant governor; Region B commander for ALEA’s Driver License Division; Highway Patrol post commander in Troy; and Highway Patrol troop commander (Troop B), overseeing operations at the Dothan and Troy Highway Patrol posts. He also served as operations and logistics officer at ALEA Highway Patrol Headquarters.

In March 2024, Captain Brooks was promoted to captain of ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division and assumed the role of deputy chief. With this appointment, he has now served in a supervisory capacity within every division of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety.

On Feb. 1, 2026, he was appointed interim division chief of the Marine Patrol Division and state of Alabama boating law administrator by Col. Jonathan Archer, director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety. In this role, he oversees all statewide operations for ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division.

Captain Brooks has received numerous professional commendations, including the 2008 Trooper of the Year Award presented by the Dothan Highway Patrol Post and the Alabama State Trooper Association. He is a graduate of several executive-level leadership programs, including the FBI Executive Leadership Institute and Troy University’s Leadership Program and Law Enforcement Command and Staff College.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Captain Brooks honorably served in the United States Army Reserve and completed a combat deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He and his wife, Jamie, have two daughters, Taylor and Aubreigh.
