Registration & Titling Spotlight
Julie Aronow, Texas
In each issue, we will spotlight a Registration and Titling (R&T) Specialist that has had an impact on their division, state, or on a national level when it comes to influencing change and consistency within each state’s registration and titling departments. If you have someone you would like to nominate, please reach out to Rick Barrera.
Our first feature focuses on Julie Aronow from Texas, nominated by Darren Rider, VIRT Committee Chair.
“As committee chair of VIRT for the past four years – I have personally witnessed Julie taking on complicated, complex and controversial charges and devoting her personal dedication to complete the charges and produce great deliverables to where the outcomes will greatly benefit NASBLA’s member states along with benefitting NASBLA’s associate members,” said Darren Rider, VIRT Committee Chair. “She is the true meaning of a “work horse” and is a vital member of the VIRT committee and all of her efforts and accomplishments are much appreciated.”
What is your position?
Program Manager, Texas Boat Titling, Registration and Marine Licensing Program.
How long have you worked for the state?
21 years, I am currently working on my 22nd!
What is the best thing about your division?
The depth of knowledge that is available.
How did you end up in the R&T office?
My entire state career has been spent in R&T. Initially, I was just looking for a job. I had no idea what was involved when I started, and since then I've worked in nearly every functional area. My degree is in Business Finance, and while there are certainly aspects that lend itself to that field, I'm also afforded opportunities to do so much more, which I thoroughly enjoy. Every day is different and presents its own challenges.
What area do you think you could help other state R&T divisions out with the most?
Implementation of the 2012 CFR changes. I have an extensive background in R&T and like to be able to tie everything back to state or federal statute, rule or policy. Or just bouncing questions back and forth, it's always worthwhile to get other state perspectives!
Hobbies outside of work?
Birding, Gaming (video & board), and Arts and Crafts.
Best restaurant near your office?
Catfish Parlour. I don't eat catfish, but their hush-puppies and jalapeno tartar sauce are to die for!
What is your favorite VIRT resource?
Dashboards!
Where are you from originally?
Texas – I don't have the traditional Texas “twang” because my family spent several of my early formative years living just outside of Washington D.C., but I am a Texas native.
