Each year, the California Department of Boating and Waterways offers a creative way for California students kindergarten through eight to get involved with boating and water safety through the Safe & Wise Water Ways Poster Contest. The poster contest is a hugely successful program that encourages teachers throughout the state to educate their students on water safety topics. We receive thousands of enteries each year. Finalists are selected from each grade level that are then judged by boating consituents. One winner from each grade level is selected to receive a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, their poster featured in a safety calendar and a water safety assembly for their school. If you're interested in running a similar program, feel free to contact Melissa Miranda for more information: melissa.miranda@dbw.ca.gov.
