This enacted South Carolina law establishes new statutory provisions governing wake surfing and updates vessel operating distance requirements on the state's waterways. The legislation defines wake surfing in state law and establishes a prohibition against wake surfing at speeds above idle within 200 feet of a moored vessel, wharf, dock, bulkhead, pier, or person in the water. It also revises minimum operating distances for personal watercraft, specialty propcraft, and other vessels operating above idle speed on designated lakes and waterways throughout the state.

The law specifies different operating distance requirements for designated lakes, other state waters, and portions of the Savannah River, while identifying applicable exceptions and exclusions. This document serves as the official enacted legislation for South Carolina's 2022 updates to wake surfing regulations and vessel operating requirements intended to enhance boating safety and protect people, property, and other waterway users.
