Bio

Employed as a specialist Marine Investigator, to determine the cause of accidents involving all types of vessels ranging from recreational and small commercial vessels through to large ferries and ships. Essentially two types of investigations are conducted; - Special Purpose Investigations do not apportion blame, but instead look at the causal factors and aim to prevent recurrence of such incidents through safety actions/awareness. - Compliance Investigations to identify any potential offences under the marine legislation. Increasingly, many investigations are a combination of the above. Relevant examples include fatal ferry collisions on Sydney Harbour, the grounding of the Pasha Bulker (76,800T DWT) off Newcastle and a near fatal accident involving a vessel operated by the Australian Defence Force Academy. Previously I was a navigator and navigation instructor in the Australian Navy, with a strong background in training and development as well as extensive sea-time and personnel management skills.
